Broken Bow Lake has over 14,000 acres of pristine deep water. The water is incredibly clear and cool because its 180 miles of shore is lined with the forest covered Kiamichi Mountains. Nature in its most unspoiled state is found along the Glover River, Oklahoma’s only untamed waterway (which means there are no dams blocking its course). Because Glover is secluded, its calm waters are ideal for floating on a raft. Beavers Bend has paddle boats and bumper boats. Rent a canoe and take a long lazy cruise together. Take turns paddling, then stop and drift for awhile, taking in the scenery – that includes Eagles flying overhead. Canoes seat two adults and two small children. Older kids will love kayaking, rafting or zooming around the lake on jet skis.
Idea #2: Create your own family posse on horseback.
Southeastern Oklahoma is home to over 535,000 acres of land available for horseback riding. The Ouachita National Forest and the Three Rivers Wildlife Management areas are prime areas for exploration as a family. Horses can travel on the forest floor. The Beavers Bend Depot is perfect for beginners and children where a 2.5 mile ride allows riders to catch a glimpse of deer and various types of wildlife. For more experienced riders, the back roads of McCurtain County offer endless riding adventures.
Idea #3: Play a game of family golf in a pine-laden wilderness.
The course has a pro shop, resident pro, cart and club rentals. Fairways cascade through stands of pine, oak, and hickory and past deer, fox, and wild turkey. More than one hole offers a fine view of Broken Bow Lake and the occasional glimpse of bald eagles.
Idea #4: Take a stroll together in a nearby small town.
Head to nearby Broken Bow, OK to walk around and do some window-shopping. Grab hamburgers at Stephen’s Gap. Catch an old timey radio show live on Broadway Street. Watch chainsaw sculpting at Hochatown Junction Station. Culture and history are plentiful in Broken Bow with three museums each with its own unique subject to offer a rewarding learning experience. The Gardner Mansion and Museum has a collection of pre-historic and historic Indian and pioneer artifacts. Located outside the museum are the remains of a 2,000 year-old Cypress tree.
Spending quality time together as a family can solidify and strengthen family ties, particularly when activities involve water sports, the great outdoors and splendor of nature as that can be found in McCurtain County.

Hi:Depends on what your sculpting a wood log or a piece of stone. If it a wooden Log, than a chain saw will do you fine Just be very careful using it. Normally a set of wood chisel and a mallet will do you the best if it is stone than set of punches and cold steel chisels along with a good quailty steel hammer I hope this helps
What kind of wood do you prefer to use in your sculpting?My favorite wood for chainsaw sculpting is white pine. White pine is easily carved but hard enough to hold fine detail. It also takes preservative well so works ideally for out door pieces. However, I have carved and still do carve other types of wood such as walnut, oak, basswood and cedar. Actually, I carve about any kind of wood.Do you carve trees on location?Yes. People ask me to travel to their homes and carve their trees. It is a great way to keep a tree that may have sentimental value or a special location on their property.We discuss the sculpture they are interested in having sculpted from their tree. When I have in my mind what I picture they want I give them a price.Price is determined by factors such as the type of tree (oak, pine, elm, etc.), size of the tree and the detail required to sculpt the tree.If the decision is made to proceed, we set up an appointment to carve the sculpture. I do guarantee satisfaction.I take no money down but before I start the sculpture the tree becomes my property. I carve the sculpture. When finished there will be a pile of sawdust, wood scraps and the promised sculpture. The customer inspects the carving. If the carving is satisfactory they pay the agreed upon price. If for any reason they are unhappy with the sculpture I cut the tree at the bottom of the sculpture and take it with me. The customer takes care of the sawdust and wood scraps..How long will the sculpture last?A sculpture should last almost forever if properly cared for. If it is not preserved and left outside you can expect around 10-15 years.Will a sculpture crack?I guarantee sculptures will crack. Continuous movement is the nature of wood. I do however, recommend methods that will minimize cracking. I also carve the sculpture so the main cracking usually occurs in the back of the carving.How do you preserve the sculptures?I recommend a wood preservative. The 1st three years preservative should be applied twice a year. Probably spring and fall. The next three years—once a year. After the initial six years the sculpture usually needs preservative once every three years.Do you recommend any certain brand of saw?I recommend Husqvarna brand saws. I believe they have some of the best saws in the world. I prefer the 395xp for a large roughing saw and the 346xp for the detail saw. The 395xp and the 346xp saws have great power to weight ratio, good balance, excellent anti-vibration and are easily maintained. I recommend a 12 inch bar with a quarter tip. The carving bar tip is so small that a sprocket tip just doesn’t work. So Chainbar Repair put a hardend surface on the tip. Eventually this tip wears out. If you send the bar with the worn tip back to them they will resurface the tip for a fee that is significantly less than the cost of a new bar. They can be contacted at http://www.chainbar.com. What kind of saw chain do you use?I choose Carlton Saw Chain. Carlton Saw Chain has a sharpening system they developed called the “File-O-Plate”. Dull chains make for difficult carving and if you are not experienced at sharpening sawchain there are many things to consider. Such as filing angles, hook, and depth gauge. This plate removes the guess work, and if your choose this chain and file plate the chain will cut just like a new chain from start until the chain is completely used up.
