I live in the the US (northeast). I want to start whittling. I have nothing except an X-acto knife and a dremel. I know I need a softwood like Basswood, but what tools should I buy? I will not be coloring or whittling kit burning.. I just want to make basic shapes for now. Eventually I’ll move onto better tools and techniques and take classes and read books and get into painting and burning.. but for now, I want to start as minimal as possible. I don’t have a pocket knife, so since I’m putting money down — what type of knife should I buy? Wood! Where should I get wood? Michaels sells tiny pieces for way too much and only in kits.. I’m looking for 5-10 pieces so I can practice.
